SECOND - THIRD Print E-mail

The last time I wrote for the Knightly News, I was at my computer with a “cuppa”hot tea and watching the snow fall, It was a snow day Tuesday. Today it is beautiful day with much sunshine! Spring is coming!  The snowflakes are off the windows and replaced with flowers, the winter clothing is gone from the children’s coat racks and the brightness of the sun casts a different light on the classroom. I enjoyed the Easter break with family and friends, but I am anxious to return to the classroom because we have so many more interesting things to learn!

Our science lessons will cover the sun, the moon, the earth and the stars.  We are going to complete our social studies lessons on the Native Americans by creating dream catchers and pottery. We are continuing our writing in both the English and reading curriculum. We should be finishing the midway point in both the 2nd and 3rd grade reading curriculum. My goal is to complete the curriculum by the year’s end. These are hard working students so I think they will be able to meet that goal.

The 2nd grade students are learning to add 3 two digit numbers in math while the third grade is being introduced to some simple algebraic word problems and equations. We have been busy rehearsing and creating for our spring Arts Fest. Please make sure you have April 11th reserved for this very special event. More information on the evening will be sent home soon.

We plan to take a field trip this month to the Owego Gymnastics for a session on nutrition and exercise. This fits in nicely with our health curriculum. Stations will be set up for the students to learn about healthy eating, what makes up the inside of our bodies and how we take care of them, and a fitness station. The date has yet to be determined.

Can you believe there is only 11 weeks of school left?

  Blessings,
  Ms K
